A statewide ban on single-use plastic bags is a step closer to becoming law now that the House approved a bill last week by a more than two-to-one margin. The law allows retailers to provide paper bags or reusable, plastic film, 2.25 mil bags for 8 cents each. The reusable bags must meet standards for strength, durability and recycled content. The Senate passed its version of the bill so the next step is to reconcile the two measures.
