1984 missing persons case linked to dismembered body found on Spokane River

SPOKANE – Nearly 40 years later, authorities have identified a dismembered body found on the shore of the Spokane River as a woman with ties to Wenatchee. This week, the Spokane Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the mutilated body, found by two fishermen in 1984, belonged to 24-year-old Ruth Belle Waymire. Despite the lengthy investigation, Ruth’s killer remains unidentified, but police say they have not ruled out Ruth’s husband, Trampas D.L. Vaughn, but he died in 2017. Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact police. Ruth Belle would have been 63.
