Ephrata man arrested in alcohol fueled assault on first responders

EPHRTA – An Ephrata man is behind bars after an alcohol fueled assault on a group of first responders early Sunday morning. A homeowner in the 10 block of E Street NE called 911 after a man who appeared to be injured knocked on their door, and when help arrived he allegedly attacked two firefighters and two officers. Then, when he was taken to be treated for a head laceration he assaulted Columbia Basin Hospital staff. It was later confirmed the man, identified as Steven Mortimer of Ephrata was drunk. He was booked into jail on five counts of third-degree assault and interfering with a healthcare facility.
