2021 inspection shows state’s dams in poor condition

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) – A 2021 inspection of the state’s dams revealed some troubling results. An Associated Press analysis tallied more than 2,200 high-hazard dams in poor or unsatisfactory condition across the U.S., with 50 of Washington dams listed as high-hazard and in poor condition, five of which are in Chelan County. Many of the state’s giant hydro-power dams are owned by federal agencies or utilities.
