Washington communities awarded millions in federal grants to reduce traffic deaths

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Reducing traffic fatalities is the goal of federal grants received by Grant and Kittitas counties and the city of Ellensburg. The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded more than $9.1 million to communities in Washington through the Safe Streets for All program, to help prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries, in what authorities described as an ‘alarming trend.’ The program includes $5 billion in funds over the next five years.
