A Republican Washington state senator out of Ritzville is criticiszing a Democratic climate change bill. Mark Schoesler says Senate Bill 5126, also known as the Carbon Commitment Act, could cause a surge in gas prices statewide in 2023. The bill targets Washington businesses that discharge large amounts of greenhouse gasses in an effort to reduce carbon pollution and achieve the greenhouse gas limits set in state law. The bill will raise the cost of diesel fuel by 2030, according to an assessment cited by the Republican lawmaker.
