ELLENSBURG – The Cow Canyon Fire continues to burn southwest of Ellensburg. While areas inside the fire perimeter continued to burn on Saturday, fire officials say fire activity overall decreased. Additional resources also arrived on Saturday to help with mop-up operations. Level 2 and 3 evacuations remain in both Yakima and Kittitas counties. Incident command has confirmed that two homes, a cabin and 11 outbuildings were destroyed by the fire which has burned over 4,000 acres since it was sparked on Aug. 3.
MEANWHILE…
VANTAGE – Some resources from the Vantage Highway Fire have been reassigned to the Cow Canyon Fire near Ellensburg. The fire, which started Aug. 1 west of Vantage, is listed at just more than 32,000 acres, according to incident command. There are currently 259 personnel assigned to the fire near Vantage. Containment on the Vantage Highway Fire is now up to 60 percent. The Quilomene and Whiskey Dick wildlife areas remain closed.
