New state agency formed to investigate police use of deadly force scrambling to set up

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) – A new state agency was mandated to start investigating police use of deadly force cases on July 1, but it appears it actually won’t be ready for months. The Office of Independent Investigations said it will take some time to fill dozens of positions, write policies and procedures, and find a permanent workspace. The new agency will have the authority to review complaints of deadly force use by police officers, and former King County prosecutor and Superior Court judge who will be leading the way, said that could result in more transparency.
