Memorial weekend kidnapping in Yakima quickly thwarted, thanks to good samaritan

YAKIMA, Wash. – An attempted Memorial weekend kidnapping in Yakima was quickly thwarted, thanks to a good samaritan. The incident began Sunday morning when a mother left her car running outside the post office near South 3rd and West Washington avenues, with her 1-year-old daughter in the backseat as she ran in real quick, and a man jumped in the car and stole it. A couple hours later, a tip led police to the suspect and he was taken into custody. The baby was located abandoned in an alley in Union Gap.
