EPA says air cleaner in Pacific Northwest

OLYMPIA – Fewer toxic chemicals were released into the environment in the Pacific Northwest over the last few years, according to a recent announcement by the Environmental Protection Agency. In a press release, the EPA said total releases of chemicals in EPA Region 10 – which includes Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington – on the agency’s toxic release inventory were down 10% in 2020 from the previous year and 25% since 2011. According to EPA, the agency reported waste releases at 11 facilities in Grant and Adams counties in 2020.
