Two dozen Washington High Schools could have to change their mascots or nicknames if a bill sponsored by 40th District State Representative Debra Lekanoff banning Native America-themed names makes it into law. The legislation gained momentum after the NFL’s Washington team dropped their Native American name earlier this year. Locally Moses Lake High School and Wahluke High School use Native Ameican nicknames. Some schools in Washington have already dropped those names and mascots.
