Fire Danger Above Average

The National Interagency Fire Center is forecasting an above-average risk of large wildfires through August and likely into September. Center officials say the cooler temperatures in July resulted in lower than normal fire activity butthe recent highs coupled with little precipitation caused fuels to continue to dry which means higher probabilities for fire. The state Department of Natural Resources has also listed fire danger in central Washington as “extreme.”
