The State Department of Natural Resources issued a burn ban for all 12 million acres of land under its management statewide. The ban is in effect through Sept. 30 or until the risk of wildfire lessens. Commissioner Hilary Franz says the prolonged hot, dry weather combined with gusty winds prompted the statewide ban and asked people to be extremely cautious when it comes to activities that could start a fire.
