Governor Jay Inslee orders a state hiring freeze effective Monday along with stopping all personal service contracts and purchasing for departments in his control. Inslee says the freeze is necessary because of an impending budget shortfall due to the coronavirus outberak. Exceptions will be granted for hiring in critical areas or purchases needed for essential operations. The governor called on other agencies to impose similar restrictions.
