As of Jan. 1 Washington drivers must give cyclists and pedestrians three feet of space, or more, if passing them on the road. The new law passed during last year’s legislative session quantified the old regulation requiring drivers to pass at a “safe distance.” There are new rules for passing cyclists depending on whether there is one lane of travel in each direction or two.
