Lawmakers Considering New Shelter Requirements

Legislation introduced in the state Assembly would require cities with at least 15,000 residents or counties with at least 40,000 residents to develop homeless housing plans and increase capacity in shelters. Local lawmakers would also be requried to make recommendations for state-level changed required so they can meet the new targets. If the bill makes it to Governor Jay Inslee’s desk the new regulations would be phased in by December.
