The Washington State Department of Transportation closed the North Cascades Highway for the season. The section of State Route 20 is shut down each year during late fall once once snow fills the avalanche chutes that line the highway.
The closure points are the Ross Dam Trailhead and at the Silver Star Gate. When significant snow begins to fall, WSDOT crews will move the western closure point back to Colonial Creek Campground and the eastern closure point to Early Winters Campground.
