Missing Othello Man Found Dead

A man missing from the Heart Lake area sinmce August is found dead. Police say the body of 36-year-old Arthur Valentino Madrigal of Othello was recovered last week from a lake in south Grant County. Madrigal was said to be with a 20-year-old woman and there’s been no word on what happened to her. Crews conducted an extensive search after Madrigal was reported missing. An autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of death.

Freeze Warning Tuesday Morning

We’re into the second week of fall but Mother Nature thinks it’s already winter. First Stevens Pass received snow and now the National Weather Service issued a freeze warning beginning at 2:00 a.m. tomorrow through 10:00 a.m. Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Forecasters say there may be more freezing temperatures later this week. Just FYI – the growing season runs through October 15.

WA Bans Flavored Vaping

Washington Governor Jay Inslee is directing the state department of health to issue a ban on flavored e-cigarette products. Inslee called flavored vape ingredients “a dangerous product that poses a serious health crisis and a gateway to addiction that threatens to hook children on nicotine for life”. The ban applies to products containing nicotine as well as the cannabis extract THC. The department will meet early next month to implement the ban.

Driver arrested for DUI after nearly sideswiping Moses Lake police patrol vehicle

A motorist who came close to sideswiiping a Moses Lake police patrol vehicle is taken into custody for drunk driving. According to investigators it happened Thursday afternoon on West Knolls Vista Drive when the car’s driver drifted into oncoming traffic forcing the officer to avoid the vehicle. It took several blocks for the driver identified as Brian Cantu to pull over even though officers had their lights and sirens active. He was booked into Grant County Jail for DUI, no ignition interlock device and driving with a suspended license.

Two Injured In SR 17 Crash

A crash on State Route 17 Friday night results in two people hospitalized. Police say it happened about 11 miles south of Moses Lake when 29-year-old Joey Flores heading southbound crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a semi-truck. The truck’s driver tried to avoid the collision by slowing down. Both Flores and the truck’s driver were taken to Samaritan Hospital with unspecified injuries. Investigators say Flores was driving while impaired.

Woman charged with DUI

Going the wrong way through a drive-thru business in Moses Lake lands a woman in jail for drunk driving. Police say it happened at Starbucks on Kittleson Road and several Moses Lake officers who were at the coffee shop witnesses Laeloni Shields who lives in Wisconsin go through the wrong way twice. They followed Shields to a nearby gas station where she was taken into custody. According to investigators Shields has a previous DUI conviction.

\Pursuit Leads To Injury

A police pursuit in Moses Lake ends up with the driver being airlifted to a Wenatchee hospital. Police say it happened Thursday when the 43-year-old man was spotted speeding on Airway Drive and he led officers on to State Route 17 heading south then ended up crashing near Patton Boulevard. The man suffered what was described as a severe head wound. Once the man is released from the hospital charges of felony eluding and hit and run will be sought.

MLFD Gets Three More Firefighters

The Moses Lake Fire department will be adding three firefighters thanks to a $550,000 federal grant. The funding was allocated through the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program and covers about 75 percent of wages and benefits for the first two years. The three new positions increase the total number of firefighters to 33 which cover three shifts at two city fire stations.

Mattawa Woman Hurt In I-90 Crash

A Mattawa woman is cited after crashing her car Wednesday on I-90. Police say Elizabeth Tellez Vera was traveling west between Cle Elum and Ellensburg when a driver tried to pass her car and Tellez Vera then swerved hitting the passing vehicle. That resulted in Tellez Vera losing control of her car which left the road and rolled over coming to rest on the westbound shoulder. Tellez Vera was treated at the scene for minor injuries. She will be ticketed for unsafe lane usage.

ML Man Jailed On Weapons Plea Deal

A Moses Lake man who was caught possession a stolen firearm takes a plea deal. Federal prosecutors say 22-yera-old Randy Coy James Holmes pleaded guilty to being a a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition resulting in a sentence of three years and a month in jail followed by three years of supervised release. The charges stemmed from an August 2017 traffic stop in Moses Lake where Holmes was found with the weapon.
