Public Turns Out Over Possible Juvenile Deterntion Move

Nearly 20 people spoke at Wednesday’s Grant County Commissioners meeting over possible plans to move juvenile detention to Martin Hall in Medical Lake. Those addressing the commission were concerned about using the hall because of things like changes and restrictions in services and creating a disconnect between juvenile offenders and their community. Officials say moving to Martin Hall would save the county nearly a half million dollars a year or around one-sixth of the youth services budget. Commissioners emphasized that they are in the very early stages of discussions and are just looking at options and ideas.
