Hawkins Says It’s Time To Rethink Timeline Of Legislative Sessions

12th District State Senator Sen. Brad Hawkins says he plans to file resolutions in December to make next year’s legislative session more productive for the limited time lawmakers have in Olympia. One resolution would change each session’s opening day to the first Monday of February, instead of the second Monday in January which according to Hawkins would avoid delays because of weather conditions and give newly elected legislators more time to get acclimated. The other resolution would take the work “consecutive” out of the legislative term so weekends don’t count against the session clock.
