Washington State Sues Opioid Manufacturer

Washington is suing an opioid drug manufacturer for what Attorney General Bob Ferguson called deceptive marketing practices telling doctors and the public that their products are effective for treating chronic pain and have a low risk of addiction, contrary to overwhelming evidence. The suit brought by Ferguson against Purdue Pharma seeks millions in civil penalites and damage along with recouping any profits Purdue made for selling opioids in Washington. A similar lawsuit was filed Thursday by the City of Seattle against Purdue and four other opioid manufacturers.
