Two Major Wildfires Continue To Grow

Two major wildfires burning on the eastern slopes of the south Cascades remain far from contained and have resulted in some schools closing because of unhealthy indoor air quality.

The Jolly Mountain Fire that started Aug. 11 has consumed just under 46,000 acres and Washington National Guard crews are now on the scene to help firefighters and the State Patrol.

The other is the Norse Peak Fire which is just over 55,000 acres and is eight percent contained with 430 personnel fighting the flames.
