Two Major Wildfires Consume Over 23,000 Acres

Two major wildfires burning on the eastern slopes of the south Cascades remain far from contained and have resulted in a level 1 burn ban for Yakima County, except for the Yakama Reservation.

The Jolly Mountain Fire that started Aug. 11 has consumed just under 10,000 acres and remains zero percent contained with nearly 400 firemen on the ground.

The other is the Norse Peak Fire which is just over 13,500 acres and is eight percent contained with 350 personnel fighting the flames.
